We didn’t have our strongest side out, and once again suffered from our continuing run drought. The pitch was not our finest, underprepared and unusually tricky due to work, holidays and other time constraints.
Nevertheless we staggered to three figures for the first time in a couple of games. It didn’t look rosy at tea, but at least we had something to bowl at. You can’t judge a pitch till both sides have batted on it they say, and so it proved, this one proving tricky for them too.
We bowled and fielded well, and at 75-8 we were suddenly very much on top. But with our foot on their neck we let them off. A combination of some loose bowling and the best number nine bat we’ve faced in a while saw the pressure released and we failed to take the last two wickets.
From an outsider’s perspective it would have been a low scoring thriller, advantage see-sawing throughout, but from our perspective it was probably the most frustrating of our recent run of failures. From that position we really should have won it.
