The week was wet and it looked unlikely we’d play. Four games in our division were abandoned as heavy downpours arrived halfway through. We had no such luck.
We batted first and suffered another top order collapse, the form of yours truly stubbornly refusing to rise above dreadful. This time the rest of the side joined in, limping to a paltry 87-8, with extras easily top scoring. Penton’s bowling was strong on a bouncy but sticky wicket, which everyone found difficult to score on.
Well, everyone on our side, anyway. They, by contrast, had very little trouble scoring. Half the side are of Caribbean decent, and they batted with customary West Indies aggression, climbing into anything lose and hitting some sizeable sixes. Penton are an exuberant and good natured bunch, clearly having fun and enjoying their cricket. They were also much better than us. We were out played in all three departments, in a one sided contest they thoroughly deserved to win.
