Damerham CC had a pond, E I E I O. And in that pond they had some ducks, E I E I O. With a quack quack here and....you get the message. Joely had prepared a belter of a wicket, up there with one of the best decks the Damerham Bowl has seen in several years. Unfortunately, after losing the toss and being put in to bat, we didn’t make any use of it and were skittled out for 30. At the start of our innings, the batting scorecard looked a lot like binary code. Reading 0, 0, 1 as Hakey, Andy and Victor perished. *I should at some point give some credit to the opposition bowlers, who were naggingly accurate and had the ball moving around nicely*. I followed, bowled hoiking across the line, after promising the skipper that I would bat sensibly. A disappointed Mother Hen-ry stood at the non-strikers end, “Make sure you text Symsey and tell him what you’ve done. And don’t lie.” Lewis, Tom and Rob all joined the already over populated duck pond, and Henry was bowled for 14 - adamant that the ball had kept low. Waz was out caught for 1, which meant that Crispy was stranded on 0* - and as he will be sure to tell you, who knows what could have been if he had been used higher up the order. 30 all out. 30.

We turned straight around and the opposition knocked the runs off inside 7 overs, for the loss of 1. There was a positive moment though as Tom Parry took his first Damerham wicket - the first of many we hope! We did have a chance to salvage an underserved bowling point, but a fielder (to be left un-named) dropped a catch and instead elected to parry the ball for the 4 winning runs. Post match, Andy sent round a Harsha Bhogle interview previewing the Cricket World Cup, where Harsha explained that one embarrassing batting display gave birth to what is now the England ‘batting juggernaut’. So next week, expect the Damerham CC juggernaut to come rolling in....
